New Build Bungalow, Devon
Transforming a Bungalow in Devon: How Smart Design Creates a Family Home
At Hobbs Home Build, we love nothing more than taking on projects that truly change the way families live. One of our recent builds in Devon involved reimagining a traditional bungalow that no longer worked for modern family life. The result? A home that feels spacious, functional, and beautifully connected to its surroundings.
Rethinking the Layout
The original bungalow layout felt disjointed, with the kitchen and living spaces separated in a way that didn’t suit busy family life. Our build team worked alongside Hobbs Home Interiors to redesign the flow of the home, relocating the kitchen to a more central position and introducing clever features like a hidden larder and recessed utility room. These practical additions mean storage is out of sight, keeping the heart of the home clutter-free and family-friendly.
Creating a True Retreat
The new primary suite became a highlight of the project. Designed as a peaceful escape, the bedroom flows into a spa-like ensuite with marble herringbone floors, crisp wall tiles, and gold accents that add subtle glamour. By combining our build expertise with the considered details from Hobbs Home Interiors, we delivered not just a functional space but a personal retreat.
A Living Room with Purpose
The lounge was completely reimagined with a bespoke fireplace and cabinetry framing the TV — creating both a striking focal point and practical storage. This balance of craftsmanship and design detail is a great example of how builders and interior designers working together can elevate the final result.
Inspired by Devon’s Surroundings
Set against a backdrop of beautiful Devon hedgerows, the interiors drew inspiration from the natural landscape. Greens and soft, earthy tones were carried throughout the home to create a connection between indoors and outdoors — making the whole bungalow feel calm, cohesive, and grounded in its location.
Why Work with an Interior Designer?
When building or renovating, many homeowners focus on the structure and leave interiors for later. But as this project shows, bringing in an interior designer early can save time, avoid costly mistakes, and ensure every decision works in harmony. At Hobbs Home Build, we often collaborate with Hobbs Home Interiors so our clients benefit from a seamless service — from structural changes right through to the finishing touches.
